Frequently Asked Questions
Even with the socket switched off, your charger can briefly fool your phone into thinking it's charging — triggering the usual buzz and charging animation. The moment that false signal drops, SocketSense catches it and alerts you before you walk away assuming your phone is charging.
Make sure monitoring is enabled via the toggle on the main screen. Also ensure battery optimization is disabled for SocketSense — go to Settings → Apps → SocketSense → Battery → Unrestricted. On some devices (Xiaomi, Samsung, OnePlus), you may also need to enable Autostart manually in your phone's settings.
This is caused by your phone's battery optimization killing background apps. Tap "Disable Battery Optimization" inside SocketSense and grant the permission. For aggressive OEMs like Xiaomi or Huawei, you may also need to go into your phone's built-in battery manager and set SocketSense to "No restrictions" or "Allow background activity".
This can happen if your cable has a loose connection and briefly disconnects. SocketSense already does a 2-second double-check before alerting to minimize this. Try increasing your threshold window in the Sensitivity setting — a higher value gives more time for the connection to stabilize before flagging it as an issue.
Android requires all foreground services (apps running in the background) to show a visible notification. This is an OS-level requirement that cannot be bypassed. The notification is set to the lowest possible priority — it has no sound, no icon in the status bar on most devices, and sits at the very bottom of your notification drawer.
No. SocketSense uses Android's native broadcast receivers which are event-driven — the app does nothing until the system sends a charger or battery event. There is no polling or background processing happening between events, so battery impact is negligible.
No. SocketSense has no internet permission and cannot communicate externally under any circumstance. All data (settings, charging session info) is stored only on your device. Nothing is transmitted, collected, or shared.
First, confirm the Low Battery Alert toggle is switched on in the app. Then check that your threshold is set correctly — the alert only fires when battery drops to or below your set percentage for the first time. It won't repeat until the battery goes back above the threshold and drops below it again. Also ensure alarm volume on your device is not set to zero.
Yes. Tap "Choose Audio File" in the Alert Sound section of the app and select any audio file from your device storage. MP3, WAV, and OGG formats are all supported. If no custom file is selected, the default system alarm sound is used.
